Coach and Officials Training Courses - 2024-2025

Coaches Needed: Free Training

The Rabbits, Ski S'Kool and Athlete Development Programs are always looking for new coaching talent. Please consider taking the coaching courses we are offering and volunteering to help coach in a fun and dynamic environment. The Club will cover the fees for club members who volunteer to coach this season.

CAC COACH INITIATION IN SPORT/NCCP INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNITY COACHING

The NCCP Coach Initiation in Sport module introduces new or experienced coaches to the foundational skills of coaching, such as long-term athlete development, ethics, coaching motivation, and athlete safety and wellness. It also teaches the key coaching concepts and educational tools that are the foundation of the NCCP.  This one-hour NCCP module is available online through the CAC Locker at a cost of $15. 

The “ICC” Workshop is the second step in the NCCP coach education program.  It is designed to teach parents and other beginning coaches with basic information and a feeling of confidence as they begin their role as a coach.  It teaches coaches how to deliver a series of age-appropriate skill development sessions under the guidance/supervision of more experienced coaches.  The orientation is to skiers of all age groups with an emphasis on working with children under six years of age (the “Active Start” stage of athlete development). 5 hour online module. The workshop fee for CCC/CCBC members is $52.00. 

These online courses are required to coach the 'bunnies/rabbits" groups.

NCCP COMMUNITY COACHING WORKSHOP

January 3-5, 2025

The “CC” Workshop is the second step in the NCCP coach education program. It provides essential training for coaches delivering an effective skill development program to children six to nine years of age (the “FUNdamentals” stage of athlete development. This program is designed to train coaches to teach children technical skills, select games that reinforce the technical skills being taught, design and lead on-snow sessions, select and prepare equipment for young children and make learning FUN.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of the ICC Workshop, enthusiasm and a minimum age of 14 years. 13 hrs / workshop. The workshop fee for CCC/CCBC members is $105.00.

This in-person course is required to coach 'bunnies/rabbits' groups.

NCCP LEARN TO TRAIN - DRYLAND

The NCCP L2T (Dryland) Workshop is the fourth step in the NCCP progression.  Coaches are taught about developmental age, physical literacy, team building, athletic components (aerobic fitness, speed, etc.), nutrition, how to design their own sport program, adventure-based activities (year-round), roller-skiing and planning a practice.

Prerequisites:  Successful completion if the Community Coaching Workshop and a minimum age of 16 years on the first day of the L2T (Dryland) workshop.  18.25 hrs / workshop. The workshop fee is $100.00.  The workshop fee for non-CCC/CCBC members is $200.00.

NCCP LEARN TO TRAIN - ON SNOW

The NCCP L2T (On-Snow) Workshop is the second half of the CCI program and the fifth step in the NCCP progression. This workshop is designed to train coaches on team management, supporting athletes at a competition, teaching and learning, equipment selection, ski preparation and how to teach ski technique effectively.

Prerequisite:  L2T (Dryland) Workshop.  16.5 hrs / workshop. The workshop fee for CCC/CCBC members is $100.00.

2024-2025 OFFICIALS TRAINING

Thanks to a generous grant from the Province of British Columbia administered by ViaSport, BVCCSC is offering the following officials training courses to build capacity and enable our club to continue hosting awesome local events at the BV Nordic Centre. Officials Level 1 

The Level 1 Officials course is designed to train individuals in the following areas of the Officiating world:

  • Regulations & Conduct

  • After successful completion of the course, you will be a certified Level 1 Official and be ready for Secondary Roles, Individual Administrative & Technical Roles at events. 

Course Controller 

This supplementary module is designed to complement, not as a replacement, of the Officials Level 1 Course. It will help prepare Officials for the role of Course Controller at a Cross Country Ski events. It covers the following topics:

Officials Level 2 

Two day course - November 30 8:00am-4:00pm December 1 8:00am-4:00pm BV Nordic Centre, Smithers 

November 30, 2024 8:00am-4:00pm and December 1, 2024  8:00am-4:00pm BV Nordic Centre, Smithers .  A 16-hour course that prepares officials for leadership roles on a competition committee at club, provincial and most national level races, including the BC Cup Series, BC Winter Games and loppets. The course covers all official race formats, rules and regulations, rule interpretation, electronic timing, all aspects of the results system and volunteer management. 

Prerequisite: Level 1 certification and three “secondary official” duties.
