BV Nordic Centre

Track Attack

The BV Nordic Track Attack program is directed at children (7 - 11) in the “Learning to Train” stage of athlete development with a big emphasis on FUN! The objective is for the participants to become technically competent cross country skiers and to utilize their skills to explore a wide range of cross-country ski activities, from long ski excursions to fun night skis and racing.

All ability levels are welcome.  Generally an athlete would start in Track Attack 1 and graduate into Track Attack 2 but experience, ability and social connections can be considerations.  Please contact nsdp@bvnordic.ca, if you are unsure of which training group would be most appropriate for your athlete.

Program goals:

  • Be fun!
  • Develop fitness through active play, games and other activities.
  • Provide children an opportunity to be part of a sport “team”.
  • Develop competence in cross country ski skills.
  • Expose children to a variety of “adventure-based” cross country ski activities.
  • Positive introduction to age appropriate competition

Our program teaches technical skills for both classic and skate skiing.  Athletes get experience working on life skills like teamwork, personal responsibility (care for equipment), personal care (dressing appropriately, refuelling, hydration, sleep habits) and goal setting.

Track Attack Camps

There are two opportunities each year for track attack athletes to participate in camps.

  • Snow Camp - (early December) technique sessions, talent show, team building
  • Summer Dryland Camp - (May or June) weekend of hiking, roller skiing, orienteering, team building

Racing

Each year there are fun opportunities for athletes to race with coach and wax support.  Racing is highly recommended but not required.

Races that would be appropriate for a Track Attack athlete:

  • Bulkley Valley Nordic's "home" races and the local Wetzin’’kwa Loppet
  • 2 or 3 regional Northern Cup races that BV Nordic is attending (usually Prince George, Burns Lake, Vanderhoof)
  • BC Track Attack Championships
  • BC Championships

See the ADP Racing page for more information.

Gear required

Athletes need skate and classic equipment.  We strongly suggest waxable (non fishscale) Classic Skis.  A couple of good links below on sizing.  The CCBC one has the most detail.
